Re: Failing to record from web sites - line and micro OK
I have now renewed the drivers for the sound card by reinstalling from the installation disc I suspect that is what fixed it. You will probably be able to run Audacity 1.3.13 successfully now. If you want to try it, you don't need to uninstall Audacity 1.2.6 as both versions may be installed on the...

Re: how can I up-grade
Probably best to stick with Audacity 1.3.12 for now unless you have a specific reason why you need to update.
Audacity 1.3.13 is the default for Ubuntu Natty.

Re: Recording/Latency Problem.
Audacity has found what it thinks is a valid recording device, but it's not receiving any data from it, so when you try to record the cursor just sits at the start waiting for some data (which never comes). First, have a look in the Windows Control Panel and ensure that your USB microphone is recogn...

Re: Problems recording a second track (multi-tracking)
I'm using Windows XP Pro and Audacity 1.2.6. You've posted in the Audacity 1.3 part of the forum, but I would recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13 anyway. You can get it here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ When I try a second track it's fine for about 30/40 seconds and then starts to m...

Re: Me being meticulous over quality loss
Yes, the damage adds everytime you reexport as a lossy format (eg. mp3). Other compressed formats that this applies to are WMA, Ogg, MP2, M4A, AC3 .... basically any format where you see a greater than 2:1 compression ratio. The general rule is that the more you compress, the greater the losses. Th...

Re: Simple BPM counter
1.3.13-beta (Unicode) Good, that's the correct version of Audacity. My mistake, it appears that the latest version of equal labels has not been released yet. If you'd like to try the latest, (not yet released) version, here's the download link: http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=327...

You've not got the current version of Equal labels.Frankelstner wrote:if "Final audio segment equal with others?" is set to "yes" (it is by default)
Which version of Audacity do you have? (look in "Help menu > About Audacity" for the full version number)

Re: Vocal removing issue
That's right. The optimum amount to amplify the left track is 0 (that is, no amplification - leave it exactly as it is). Not more, not less. The vocal is dead centre which is exactly where you want it. This little bit of vocal that is left after the Vocal Removal effect is due to the "stereo ef...

Re: Loud noise in Audacity with with Pulse Audio loopback
I had a play with the loop-back module a while back. (not a good idea to have it auto load on a laptop machine with a built in microphone- one false step and the computer boots up screaming, but that's another story). To unload the module I used: pacmd list-modules to identify the module number, the...
