No. I just made a short sine tone, applied a couple of fades and then amplified it to a suitable level.
Since you asked, I've made one for you ;)

Yes, click on the track name (left end of the track) of the upper of the two tracks that you wish to combine and select "Make Stereo Track".

Re: I Cant see my Audacity Beta in Windows 7 Ultimate

Which version of Audacity are you using? What's the name of the installation file that you used?
Has this fault suddenly started happening, or has it never worked?

Re: Performing a paste mix

Thanks Koz but that sounds pretty involved. It's not really. There's only one extra step, and that is that you create a new (empty track) to paste the audio into, rather than pasting it into the original track. There's even a keyboard shortcut for creating a new track (but I don't use Macs so I don...

Re: Audio Interface: records in to many channels

Audacity does not yet have any "channel mapping" (though it is a highly requested feature), so recording multiple channels always starts at channel 1.
If there's too many channels recorded, you can delete the unused channels by clicking the [X] in the top left corner of the unwanted track.

Re: Any Need To Install Latest Version

That is basically what I wanted to check - which version of Lame each version was using. Both Audacity 1.3.12 and 1.3.13 should be able to use either of the versions of Lame that are provided on the Lame download page. If you've not updated Lame, then I would have expected them both to be using the ...

Re: Audio signal control advice

Have I got this right: You have 4 stereo "devices" (such as CD players, Mini-Disk, Tuner, cassette player). All 4 "devices" have "line level" outputs? You want to be able to play any two of the devices at the same time through one domestic stereo amplifier? If so, then ...

Re: Issues with recording the third track

Unless you have the playback extremely loud in your headphones I doubt that it "is getting picked up by the microphone". I think what is more likely is that you have your sound card set to record from "Stereo Mix" rather than directly from the microphone. On this page there is a ...
