Re: Need advice on my workflow
One interesting about the envelope is that it can be a bit deceiving... if you're in normal waveform view it might give you the idea that your bringing the volume to silence in the end while usually it doesn't :) You can see this better expressed if you switch the waveform view to dB. That's true -...

What's the rest of the version number? Is it the Unicode version? (see "Help > About Audacity").brucegiddens wrote:Audacity 1.3.x(Beta)
Do you still have this problem after closing and restarting Audacity?

You shouldn't have two "default" recording devices. In fact I'm surprised that Windows would allow you to do that.

Re: Simple Automatic Silence Generator
I think there already is a plug-in for this somewhere (or at least something similar), but you'll probably learn a lot more about writing plug-ins by doing it from scratch. The first thing you need is a plain text editor - preferably one that has "parentheses matching". If you're on Window...

Re: Need advice on my workflow
Further to what bgravato wrote, the Envelope Tool allows more flexibility to the exact way that one waveform fades into the other. It is also "non destructive" which means that you can readjust it as often as you like to achieve precisely the effect that you want. The advantage of using th...

Re: Taming the Wild Voice Recording
The 4600 should be fine, though the Composer Pro offers a bit more flexibility (all the bells and whistles that could possibly want). A good mixer should have plenty of overhead - some will happily cope with 24 dB above 0, but the UCA 202 certainly won't. The UCA 202 is 16 bit, so 0 dB is an absolut...

Re: (non Audacity) Post-processing trouble
I’ll just put this down to the vagaries of the analogue style filter It perhaps does look a little unexpected, but actually produce a very close match with the results that would be predicted for this type of filter. The mathematics are rather complicated (over my head), but if you want to look it ...

Re: Sound is breaking up badly during play back.
You're probably recording a mono signal on a stereo (2 channel) track.grfuller wrote:Also when I play back through my ipod there is only sound on one channel?
In Audacity, set the number of channels to "1 (mono)" http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Device_Toolbar

Classic symptoms of the issue described in the earlier post from kozikowskigrfuller wrote:it will sound perfect for some of the time and then suddenly the sound level will drop and it distorts for awhile.
