Re: Best Practices for Narration Recording?
The microphone specifications claim that it can handle up to 134 dB without the -10 dB cut. That's quite a lot louder than a revving chainsaw. Setting the Pre-amp recording level: Turn the Microphone Gain knob fully counter-clockwise. Connect a microphone to the Microphone Input on the front panel u...

Re: Best Practices for Narration Recording?
-10 dB switch definitely set to off. You'll get nowhere near 134 dB doing narration recording.

Re: Changing order of tracks
Use the Time Shift tool (double headed arrow <-> ) and slide the tracks left/right to where you want them.
I'd highly recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13 unless you are using a pre-Windows XP operating system.

Re: (non Audacity) Post-processing trouble
Sound system with low phase shift are frequently described as more "open" and "clear" and less "restricted." That's a really vague statement most likely to be found in audio equipment adverts. ;) Phase shift within the crossover of a speaker system can cause comb filte...

Re: Need advice on my workflow
At present the quickest way is to use the fade-in fade-out effects (as described previously http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 82#p156457 )
There may be a quicker way to do this in the future, but nothing official has been released yet.

Re: Simple Automatic Silence Generator
Congratulations, your first plug-in :D the first time I use it on any project, it insists on making its own audio track for the silence. Generate plug-ins will return audio to the selected track if there is a track selected, but will create a new track (so that there is somewhere for the generated a...

Re: Best Practices for Narration Recording?
The -10 dB toggle is usually to allow you to record very loud sounds without distortion. Unless you are screaming loudly down the microphone the switch should probably not be set to -10 dB.
We can probably give more specific suggestions when you've posted the details of your equipment.

Re: Specify disk for recording
Recording direct to an external device is not recommended as the device needs to be able to sustain a continuous high transfer rate without any interruption. It is generally better to move other stuff off the internal hard drive so that you have sufficient space on the internal drive. That's not to ...
