Do you still have the original cassettes? You will probably get better results by re-converting them at a lower volume level.

Removing echo after the event is near impossible. You need to identify the source of the echo and remove it. Is the echo just in your headphones while you are recording, or is it also on the recordings when you play them back? What is the make/model of your microphone and how does it connect to your...

Check near the bottom of the Transport menu. "Software Playthrough" should be off (not selected).

Yes, that's what MP3 damage sounds like. You can hear why MP3 encoding is called lossy compression . The bad version has probably been converted from the original recording to a compressed format (WMA, MP3 AAC, ...) then passed to someone else and converted to another compressed format, then passed ...
