It certainly should not do that.

Try launching Audacity from a Terminal window (just type the word audacity and hit return).
Then try opening the audio device info.
Does it still crash and if so, what is written to the Terminal window?

Re: SHOW CLIPPING

One thing to be aware of with the Normalize effect in Audacity (and as far as I'm aware it is only Audacity that does this) is that Normalize operates on the left and right channels independently. In some cases this can be a good thing in that it can help to balance the left and right channels if th...

Re: can not open library

And while you're up there, get and install Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 is really old and can be unstable on newer computers. Richard mentioned "win. xp-sp1- 112 mg ram 34 gig hard drive space" , so that's going to be a pretty old machine (and has very little RAM), so in this case I think t...

Re: How to get rid of Express new mail signal

You may not be able to, but if you can Export just that little bit of the recording and attach it to your reply then someone may be able to see how much of it can be removed. (select that bit including a couple of seconds either side, then "File menu > Export Selection" and Export it as a ...

Re: Recording streaming audio (FAQ did not help help)

Ubuntu uses PulseAudio by default.
There's a walk through for Ubuntu 10.10 here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Stere ... _Ubuntu_10
It will probably be quite similar on Ubuntu 11.04.

Re: ID3 tags

You don't need to fill anything in for the metadata, just click the OK button. In Audacity 1.3.13, if you go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export" there is an option to disable the Metadata Editor from popping up on each export. There's probably a similar setting in Audacity 1.2 Pre...

If you want a simple (sine) tone that sweeps from one frequency to another, try "Generate menu > Chirp".

Re: Recording a synth question

I just can't get Stereo Mix to do anything in Audacity. I think that's the bit we need to concentrate on first. So as not to complicate the issue with ASIO and VST, lets see if we can get Audacity to record anything from the Stereo Mix input. SoundMax might still have its own control panel in the W...

Yes they have, and have reported that it works (but not me - I don't have a Mac)
