Re: Normalizing vs. Amplifying

The other difference is that "Amplify" will amplify all selected tracks by the same amount - so if you have 3 tracks selected and the Amplify effect is set to amplify by +3 dB, then all three tracks will be amplified by +3 dB. On the other hand, "Normalize" will make the tracks g...

Re: Cannot record

It sounds like the recording level is massively too high.
If you right click on the speaker icon near the time/date on your Desktop and bring up the Recording settings, find the recording level setting and turn it down much lower. (It's not unusual on Win 7 to need it set to about 0.1.

Re: Mixing in Audacity.

"Overdub" should be enabled (selected).
"Software Playthrough" should be disabled (not selected).
Then you need to set your sound card to record from "Line In" (or whichever input you are using) and not "Stereo Mix".

Re: Linear loudness vertical axis in frequency spectrum?

The reason is to deemphasize the data at extremely low loudness (say below -30 dB). If you just want to be able to pick out the high level spikes more easily, a little trick you can try is to add a new track and generate white noise at a level of about 0.5 into that track. Now select both the origi...

Re: How to have a pausing point

Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13 (get it here: http://audacityteam.org/download/) Click on the track at the point where you want the pause, then "Edit > Clip Boundaries > Split" (or Ctrl+I). Switch to the Time Shift tool (F5 key) and drag the right hand section to the right. When you play back t...

Re: installation's problems

As far as I'm aware Audacity 1.3.x does not have a "preferences.cfg" file.

Re: SHOW CLIPPING

i have this as Default Mode 1 Channel,16 Bit.44100 Hz (Cd quality) If you want to record in stereo, then that should be set to "2 Channel". It's not unusual for the left and right channels to be at slightly different levels from a turntable, but if they are a long way out then there may b...

Re: error while opening sound device?

The following worked for me: "Transport" -> "Rescan Audio Devices" Then in the "output device" drop down (marked with a speaker icon) I changed to "Microsoft Sound Mapper". This removed the error! Configuration -> Lenovo PC with Windows 7 Professional with Re...

Re: How to get rid of Express new mail signal

You can make it a fair bit quieter if you select just the bing-bong, then from the Effect menu select "Nyquist Prompt".
Copy and paste this text into the text box in Nyquist Prompt and click OK.
