I agree that would be an interesting test.DVDdoug wrote:What are the levels like if you use the truntable's built-in preamp instead of the TCC?

Re: WAV files exported from Audacity are not bit-identical
I'm using Audacity 1.3.14 on Ubuntu 10.10.
Test method:
Test method:
- Disable dither in Audacity.
- Import a 16-bit WAV file.
- Export the file with a new name.
- Calculate the MD5 checksum for both files

Re: .AIF file import clipping
Yes that is certainly clipped.
Here's a short, over zero sample that is not clipped.
If you import this into Audacity, then apply the amplify effect you should see a perfect sine wave.

Re: timelines on each track
Does v1.3.13 work with Windows 2000 SP4? I've never tried it, but it should work. The default installation folder for Audacity 1.3 is different to Audacity 1.2, so you can have both versions installed at the same time (but only run one at a time). If you have major problems with Audacity 1.3.13 you...

Re: Viftool
It looks like the CHK file is some sort of container for multiple OGG files. Even if you successfully open the CHK file you will need to use VifTool2 to put the OGG files back into CHK format. Have you tried contacting TomTom? Although they tell you to use an ancient version of Audacity (which they ...

Re: corrupted files on export?
I would suspect the problem is either, you're making data disks rather than audio disks, or you are exporting from Audacity in a format that is not supported by your CD burning software. Check that the "Project Rate" (lower left corner of Audacity) is set to 44100 before you export, then E...

Re: How to remove very short bouts of silence successfully?
One of the limitations of the MP3 format is that it always has a bit of silence at the beginning. You can trim this off in Audacity by selecting the silence and deleting it, but if you Export as MP3 there will be a new bit of silence at the beginning of the exported track. This is not a limitation i...
Re: Peaking
That's quite common on Win 7, but not on XP (other than if the "boost" is enabled on a Mic input). We'll need to go a bit deeper to determine if there's a problem. Let's start with the equipment - what's the make model of the turntable and pre-amp? Which input/output is connected where and...

Re: How to "Apply Chain to Files" for Raw Audio?
Chains do not support RAW import. Raw import is not a good candidate for Chain support as it relies on user input to set the correct import parameters. Probably the best solution would be to use an alternative program to batch convert the files to a normal PCM WAV format, then you will be able to us...

Re: Cannot open file with audacity
The Ubuntu 10.10 repository version of Audacity is 1.3.12. There is an Audacity/Ubuntu PPA repository that has the latest version: https://launchpad.net/~audacity-team/+archive/daily?field.series_filter=maverick If you enable this repository, you will probably want to deselect it in your Software So...
