FFMpeg is a free, open source, cross-platform media codec library that supports encoding/decoding of a huge range of media formats. You can find out more about FFMpeg from their web site: http://ffmpeg.org/ "proprietary format" usually means that someone is claiming ownership of the format...

Unless you're on a really old Intel Mac, the first thing they will suggest on the Mac board is that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13
What sort of Mac is it?

Re: Quickest work flow for sound editing
Alternately, it takes longer, but you can Export as AIFF each time. This will give you multiple unique intact complete AIFF files. music2.aiff, music3.aiff, music4.aiff. If you ave each "snippet" on a separate track you can use Export Multiple to export each track as a separate file. Duri...

Re: Quickest work flow for sound editing
I see. The method that I described in my previous post should give a rough idea. If you are extracting sections from multiple shows, I'd suggest that you import one show, extract the bit(s) that you want (roughly), then delete the full show track. Then import the next show and extract the parts that...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
I'm not a Mac user, but hopefully I've got these shortcuts correct (This is only really 2 steps, but I've broken it down into tiny steps for clarity). 1) Put the cursor where you want the first marker and press COMMAND+B Don't worry about getting the position exactly right, it can be adjusted later ...

Re: Quickest work flow for sound editing
I still don't really follow what you're wanting to do. Are making the radio shows or are you wanting to make short "demos" from some of your old shows? You've got shows going back for decades. What's different about what you now want to do and what you've been doing for the past 40 years? ...

Do you have a wheel mouse? (a mouse with a scroll wheel) http://codinghorror.typepad.com/.a/6a0120a85dcdae970b0128777031da970c-pi When using Audacity I find the scroll wheel invaluable. You can also use it to scroll left and right along a track by holding down the Shift key while using the mouse. It...

Re: How to remove very short bouts of silence successfully?
I've moved this to the Audacity 1.3 part of the forum because that's what you're using? Am I right? To see a split mark, just click anywhere on an audio track and press Ctrl+I You will see a vertical blank line. Now that the track is split, if you switch to the Time Shift Tool (F5 key, or click on t...

Re: Headphones no longer cut out speaker.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'Does the laptop have sound settings or control panels different from Windows?' Have a look at the little icons near the Time/Date. (some of the icons may be hidden). There should be at least one "Loudspeaker" icon. There may be two. Check thoroughly th...
