Try setting it to "2 channel 16-bit 44.1 kHz".
Keep Audacity at 2 channel 32-bit float 44100.

Audacity: 2.4.2 (installed through Ubuntu Software Centre)

That's probably a Snap or Flatpak version. We've had multiple reports of problems with those. Go back to the deb version (Audacity 2.3.3-1build1)

What is the exact version number of Audacity? (look in: "Help menu > About Audacity")
