Re: Podcasting with 2 USB "host" mikes and Skype "guests"
Identical headphones I don't think that is a prerequisite, though if the devices are wildly different it could be tricky to get a reasonable recording level match. There could also be difficulties with synchronisation if they are different, but if you have a couple of head sets then give it a go an...

Re: Problem with the Vocoder effect
Let's start with a bold statement: Reinstalling Audacity never fixes anything. Explanation: Many users will tweak the Audacity Preferences to suit the way that they work. It would be really annoying if these settings were wiped out every time the program was updated, so like many other programs, Aud...

Re: How Do I Get Rid Of The Median Line When I Edit A Record
What I can do is make a screen print of a glitch section before I remove it. Should I save it in a Word Document? How do I attach it here? Save it as a JPG or a PNG file. You will then be able to upload to the forum with your reply - look below the message composing box and click on the tab that sa...

Re: missing 8bit and 1bit sample support
8-bit PCM WAV files can be imported in the normal way. To export 8-bit PCM WAV files, select "Other uncompressed files" as the file type. Then click the "Options" button and select "WAV" as the Header and "Unsigned 8 bit PCM" as the Encoding. A sample format o...

Re: Editing FLAC: after removing glitches file size increase
It was not so much an "explanation", more of a "fuzzy picture", so I'm pleased that it made some sense :) Yes, it sounds like everything should be fine. By the way, if ever you do want to do any processing, but the noise during "silent" parts is too annoying, then you c...

Re: Same volume for each track for a medley - How?
I haven't tried equal-loudness.ny, but that's the best approach if you want to do it automatically. If that doesn't work, WaveGain* and MP3Gain try to standardize the perceived loudness. The idea is to WaveGain the tracks individually, and then create the medley from the adjusted tracks. (ReplayGai...

Re: Recording live band practices. Need better method/equipm
Yes, it's a very large rehearsal room. Mic was probably 30 feet from the band So, this "cardboard box / tinfoil / underwater" sound is what any H2 will sound like in a large room? Not just the H2, it will sound poor with any microphone. Drums sound like a cardboard box. (Nothing like a de...

Re: Can someone help me?
Vocal Remover will not work on that song because the song is mono (both the left and right channels are virtually identical).
This page on the Audacity wiki explains what the Vocal Removal effect does, and why it will not work on a mono track: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Vocal_Removal

Re: Podcasting with 2 USB "host" mikes and Skype "guests"
I'm not a Mac user, but apparently there is a feature in the OS X sound system called "Aggregate Device". What this does is to allow multiple "sound cards" (in your case, USB mics) to be combined as one virtual device. You can then set Audacity to record from that virtual device,...
