Re: Real-Time exporting
We use "vidcap" at work to do this in the video world. For audio only you can use Sox , though it is a command line program (no graphical interface). Here's a free (graphical) audio recorder that I found using Google: http://www.opcode.co.uk/opd2d/default.asp For other alternatives: http:...

Re: recording
how do u get all the noise out of the recording You probably can't get "all the noise out of the recording" (without also destroying the recording) and this is why people go to great lengths to avoid noise in their recordings. Here is the Audacity wiki page about what you can do to remove...

Re: Removing words from speech, and maintaining the tone
If it was about image, not sound, I'd suggest applying 'smudgung' effect to it. I guess there must be something similar to do with sound. That's a good idea. A similar technique with audio would be to add a lot of "delay" or "reverb". I think the problem with this approach will ...

Re: Install on USB drive instead of PC?
Have you personally tried this? I would have said no just based on USB being a half-duplex data system. Yes I have and it worked better than I expected (though my expectations were low). If you go into Preferences and in the "Directories" section, set the "Temporary files directory&q...

Re: recording
If it is low level "tape hiss" you could try the Noise Removal effect.

Re: Diagnosing Audio Problems and Fixing Them
It can often help if you remove the very low bass and high treble by using the Equalization effect with settings similar to this:
After processing you may want to run the "Amplify" effect with the default settings.

Re: Troubles with multitrack recording
Just to cover bases, you are aware that if a track is selected when you start recording, then recording will stop when it gets to the end of the selection?

Re: recording in mono
Ensure that Audacity is stopped (not in Record, Play or Pause).
Select "Channels = 1 (mono)" in the Device Toolbar.
If that does not work, please give a detailed description of your set-up.
By the way, 1.3.12 is obsolete. You should update to 1.3.13 http://audacityteam.org/download/
