My recording track is working great but I can't hear the music track below that I imported.
Ensure that "Overdub" is enabled (in "Transport menu > Transport options") and that your headphones are selected for playback in the Device Toolbar.

Where can I find that .deb file?
It should be available in the Ubuntu Software Centre. Look for "Audacity 2.3.3".
(uninstall Audacity 2.4.2 first)

Re: Separating tracks

Click on the name of the track. That will open the track's context menu. Select "Split Stereo Track" to split into two mono tracks, one panned hard left and the other hard right, or "Split to Mono" to create two mono tracks both centre panned. See also: https://manual.audacitytea...

Re: Removing Pop spikes

https://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=29316 In the waveform (above), the red line tracks the "amplitude envelope" of the waveform. The "Pop Mute" plug-in creates an envelope follower signal like that, and then applies negative gain when the envelope (red line) exce...

Re: Removing Pop spikes

It seems the tool detects spikes based on a dB threshold That's correct. Anything over the "threshold" level is reduced. but it seems to me that since pop spikes are quite narrow there should be a way to detect spikes based on their sharpness. One of the use cases that this effect was wri...

Re: Exporting 24bit AIFF results in 16bit file. Bug?

There seems to be a workaround.

1) Select a bit of the track and use "Export Selected Audio" to export it as 24-bit WAV.
2) Then export the entire project in the normal way as 24-bit AIFF.

It seems that the "24-bit" sticks until you export something as 16-bit WAV.

Re: Exporting 24bit AIFF results in 16bit file. Bug?

That's weird, I was just trying a few things, and now it has exported as 24-bit AIFF :?
I'll experiment and see if I can figure out what did that.

It is a bug. I'll check if it still occurs in the current alpha build, and if it does I'll log it on the Audacity bug tracker.

The reason for using AIFF is that this format allows for easier adding of metadata versus .WAV
Perhaps use 24-bit FLAC?

Re: Host says "no midi interface" not CoreMIDI?

Other than installing SINE Player, are you aware of anything else that changed in your set up between when you last successfully used Audacity and when Audacity first failed?
