Re: How does a newbie reduce bass?
One of the shortcomings of Audacity: no "real-time" preview of equalization But there is a "Preview" button. The default preview duration is only 3 seconds, which I find to be a bit short so I have it increased to 5 seconds. This is set in "Edit menu > Preferences > Playbac...

Re: Fade Out -> Fade In
I wanted to check if this could be done a bit easier... Though it's not quite finished yet, there is a fully working cross-fade plug-in in the link that waxcylinder gave. Here is a direct link to the plug-in: http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=4199 There is also a newer cut-down ver...

Re: Cross-Fade (revisited)
Setting it to 5 seconds creates a pleasing cross-fade in this case. I should probably also have said that I did not specifically choose the songs to show off the effect in the best light - I just Googled "Creative Commons" and followed the links to an album, then picked two tracks from th...

Re: Recording from a Digital Piano
I'm not sure of the forum policy for bumping old threads As you are continuing an ongoing discussion that's fine. It's not quite as clear as I thought it would be, so do you have any tips on how I could improve it It sounds pretty good to me considering that it is in a lossy format (MP3). The quali...

Re: Pitch correction
I'll move this to the Audacity 1.3.x part of the forum as that is what we are now using. I don't think that you're doing anything wrong other than expecting an exact result from an inexact effect. Pitch shifting is the other side of the coin of "time stretching". The simplified explanation...

Re: Cross-Fade (revisited)
The control in version B doesn't seem to do anything - no matter what setting I make I get a cross-fade length that is half the selection length. That's strange. I've just downloaded it (to check that I had uploaded the correct code) and it works perfectly. I think version A is the clearest in term...

Re: Cross-Fade (revisited)
I do like the idea of presets, but as revealed by previous attempts to make a more versatile fade effect, there is a major drawback. There is no correct, (or even any common) "parlance". The terms "fast" and "slow" are more likely to suggest fade duration rather than th...

Re: Cross-Fade (revisited)
Just turn Snap To on, select from 2s to 4s and the "Fade Length" to 1s (in the last working plug-in). Try making the cross-fade manually. You want a 1 second cross-fade, which will require a 1 second fade-out down from the 2 second mark and a 1 second fade-in up to the 4 second mark. 1) S...
