Re: Compressor: shorter attack/release times?
I found some useful plugins for that. There's a nyquist plugin called "Broadcast Limiter III" which is very good (not to be confused with an earlier version called "Broadcast limiter II", which adds some ugly distortion to the waveform). There's also a "soft clipping limite...

Re: Copying Contents of CD to Audacity
The best way to get music from a CD to your computer is the "rip" the CD. "Ripping" is the process of digitally extracting the audio from the CD and if ripped to WAV format will produce very high quality copies. There are several good free CD ripping programs available such as CD...

Re: Cannot record with USB Cassette
Can we just check that the "Microphone Array (USB Audio Con" actually is the USB cassette.
If it is, then it should appear in Audacity if the USB cassette is connected when you launch Audacity, and not appear in Audacity if it is not connected to the computer.

Re: Editing Audio Clip
Ok I set the markers, but the options under file and edit are mostly blanked out. Most options in Audacity are disabled while Audacity is playing, recording or paused. Click the "Stop" button and see if the options are available. I downloaded the ffmpeg also, but just like lame encoder I ...

Re: How do I NOT load VST's?
I've removed the post from the 1.2.x forum and merged Koz's reply into this topic. The problem is that it takes longer to boot up than it used to because it loads all the VSTs that came with FL Studio. How do I tell Audacity to skip loading these? Edit menu > Preferences > Effects. Deselect the VST ...

Re: Compressor: shorter attack/release times?
.13 won't compile correctly for some reason We may be able to help you with that - in fact if you want to build from source then I'd recommend building from SVN (the current development code). Audacity development is currently frozen (no new features, just bug fixes) until Audacity 2.0 is released,...

Re: Cannot record with USB Cassette
Make sure that you connect the USB cassette before you open Audacity. You should then get a USB option in the recording devices.
There's a tutorial about USB turntables and much of it also applies to USB cassettes http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Reco ... turntables

Re: Best settings for separating talking from background mus
Vocal Remover has an option for removing specified frequencies, I thought maybe that was a way to 'fine tune' the removal. You're correct, that is exactly what it is for and in a few cases it can help to reduce the "distortion". It does not help to remove more of the sound that you want r...
