Unless I move the Pan slider, but then it won't save as mono anymore.

If the volume is reduced when the pan slider is centred, then there's something wrong with your playback system.

At the bottom of each page is a button with a wrench icon. Click on that and then click on "Subscribe topic". Strangely, when that option is NOT ticked, then you are subscribed and notifications will be sent whenever there is a reply.
