Audacity 1.2.5 is really old. It was designed to run on machines of a bygone era.
The recommended version of Audacity for OS X 10.6/10.7 is Audacity 1.3.13 http://audacityteam.org/download/

Check that you have the latest version of Audacity (1.3.13)
You will find the full version number in "Help > About Audacity".
If you have an older version you can download 1.3.13 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
Just install 1.3.13 over the top of your current version.

I don't understand why it would just stop working like that. Yes that's strange. Something must have changed. Perhaps Windows has updated your sound card drivers.
