Re: suggestion - horizontal lines on the audio panel
Before I apply compression I seek to assess the existing noise floor A quick and easy way to do that is to select a bit of noise, then click on "Effect > Amplify" (don't apply the Amplify effect - click the Cancel button after reading the "Amplification (dB)" setting). Because t...

Re: need for clarification - attack delay?
If you try the "soft clipping limiter", that is in effect a compressor with zero attack / decay times.
The downside of this type of effect is that it produces distortion because the amount of compression varies depending on the instantaneous amplitude of each sample.

Re: Odd behaviours on joining and splitting stereo tracks
There does seem to be a consensus (at least three votes) on moving Track Info down as that has wider benefits. +1 If you have R above L with L hard panned to left, the panning is broken now IMO I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "If you have R above L" but I agree that there is a flaw ...

Re: Acceptance criteria for audio
The odd comments have been very generic. That is usually the case. Generally people will know if something does not sound "right" but will have no idea what is "wrong". Picking out what is wrong requires a trained ear (someone that has done recording themselves and made the same...

Re: Hiss remaining after Noise Removal
Don't expect 100% noise removal on noisy tracks without considerable damage to the remaining sound. The noise removal effect works best for removing low level noise. Try increasing the Sensitivity slider and reducing the Attack/Decay to zero, then use a modest amount of Noise reduction. It is usuall...

Re: Cannot access files - error 5
I have discovered that all the permissions of every data file I have have disappeared. Do a full and thorough virus scan. The sudden changing of file permissions is a common symptom of a virus attack. Audacity does not change the file permissions, though I did suspect that it was a permissions prob...

Re: grunge feedback
I have no added units on the Zoom to allow me to transfer onto a disc Ah, so no CD writer and no USB? Can you try making a silent track on the Zoom (record on the Zoom with the recording level turned right down). Then try recording the silence in Audacity. Do you still get the "grunge"? I...

Re: importing multiple audio files
There's something wrong in the first pictures that you posted. When an Audacity project is saved, a file and a data folder are created. If the filename is filename then the .AUP file will be filename .aup and the folder will be filename _data In your picture the file is called filename and we assume...

Re: Cannot access files - error 5
Try copying the 20111101.aup file and the 20111101_data folder to somewhere in My Documents.
Then try and open the copied file.
Then try and open the copied file.
