Re: Best Sampling Rate for Export to Mp3?
If the sole purpose of a project is to export to mp3, is there any advantage/disadvantage to using a higher sampling rate and then re-sampling down on export to mp3, or should the original project use the same sampling rate as the mp3 with no re-sampling on export? As the sole purpose is to export ...

Re: Ambient drone
Time-stretching maybe (e.g. Paul stretch) It's a shame we never got that into Audacity - it's a really cool effect. Another option is to record a sustained note, make a copy of the track and apply a fade-in to the start. You can then make multiple copies of the modified note and position them on tw...

Audacity uses Portaudio to communicate with the computers audio in/out system. On Windows, the version of Portaudio that Audacity is currently using only reliably supports MME, DirectSound and ASIO. WaveRT is not yet supported and Audacity cannot be distributed with ASIO support due to licensing res...

Re: Odd behaviours on joining and splitting stereo tracks
With regard to Pan and Gain: One way that Audacity could "do the right thing" and make transparent what it is doing would be to replace the pan slider on stereo tracks with a second gain slider so that there is one gain slider per channel. Assuming that the sliders were labelled in some wa...

Re: Remove glitch
How did you get the rhythm to line up since it doesn't in the original piece? The reason that the rhythm did not line up in the original was because a glitch had been edited out making the bar length too short. There's a couple of things that could have been done to make the rhythm match. The best ...

Re: Odd behaviours on joining and splitting stereo tracks
I would say when Bill touches the Gain slider as above, Audacity should render then apply whatever gain change was made to both channels. So if some one is in the middle of editing a really long recording and they accidentally nudge the Gain slider, they then have to wait for however long while Aud...

Re: Saved mp3 files lose sound quaility
Encoding as MP3 always loses sound quality. To be able to do all the things that it does, Audacity operates on "uncompressed" audio data. This means that the MP3 has to be decoded. If it is then exported as an MP3 file, then it has to be re-encoded and that will lower the sound quality. De...

Re: Remove glitch
Here I've selected from 3.658 to 5.984 Then using this cross-fade plug-in I used these settings: cross-fade.png and this is the result: audio-sample-cross-faded.flac To install plug-ins: Place them in the Plug-Ins folder inside the Audacity installation folder. On Windows computers, this is usually ...
