Re: No simple save command?

In WaveStudio (please excuse the comparison), I can open the wave directly, make my changes, then click save. Done deal. You're excused ;) ... but... Directly editing WAV files is not without its dangers. If you make a mistake in the editing then you're up the creek without a paddle. In Audacity 1....

Re: Recurring Recording Schedule

Keep in mind that Linux is still new for me. In that case you may be interested - If you want each recording to have a unique file name, you can add the date/time to the file name with something like this for SoX: rec "/home/<user name>/Music/recording_$(date +%y-%m-%d-%I-%M).wav" trim 0 ...

Re: Best Sampling Rate for Export to Mp3?

MP3 encoding will limit the frequency bandwidth if the bit rate is not high enough (this is the prime reason why it is pointless to use very high sample rates if the final format is MP3). What bit-rate / quality settings are you using for the MP3s? would the larger file size be a problem for people ...

Re: Single channel choice crashes! Help!

I had chance to take a quick look on Google today and there's no shortage of reports of crashes when using Sound Blaster Live sound cards. The problem is that it's old hardware and although they worked well in their day (I had a couple of these cards) it looks like there are problems with more up to...

Re: Saved mp3 files lose sound quaility

320 kbps is the highest possible sound quality for MP3, but it also produces the biggest files. 64 kbps is low quality, suitable for speech when you want small files, but there will be noticeable loss in quality for stereo music. 128 kbps is usually considered the minimum for reasonable quality ster...

Re: Waveform Interpretation

My point was to prove that since the those files formats are lossless between FLAC and WAV, if there are any differences they are hearing, it is not because of the file format itself, but something else in the signal chain that is causing the difference. Is that a fair statement? The fact that I ca...

Which version of Audacity are you using? (look in the Help menu > About Audacity).
If it's not Audacity 1.3.13 then I'd recommend that you upgrade. http://audacityteam.org/download/

Perhaps Wavosaur will suit your recording needs http://www.wavosaur.com/
Of course you can still use Audacity for editing and processing.

Re: Recurring Recording Schedule

I use the arecord tool to record my show using Gnome schedule. Works great. Would love to have the same kind of functionality built into Audacity at some point. I can see the benefits for Windows users, but in what way would scheduling recording in Audacity be better than using Gnome schedule and a...

Re: will not record wave form thru interface, tascam

Are you sure that it's not just recording very quietly? If it's recording a flat blue line, try applying the Amplify effect to the recording to see if it is really silence or just very low level. (If it's recording really quietly, the sound quality is likely to be rubbish, but then we can probably d...
