Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. I use Linux and "pause and record" works in the way that you expect it to. Perhaps it is a quirk of Vista?lennyt wrote: but why could I do what I did before and not now?

Re: No simple save command?
don't know if I'd necessarilly agree that working directly on a wave is dangerous, It is as soon as the WAV is overwritten. I can't really comment of WaveStudio because it's been a long time since I've used it, but in Audacity "Undo" is only available while the project is open. As soon as...

Re: Best Sampling Rate for Export to Mp3?
Conversion to MP3 should be the last stage in the process Totally agree. the originals were recorded on a Teac half-track stereo reel-to-reel I don't suppose that you still have access to those tapes and a Teac half-track machine? I may have missed this - what platform are you on? What's your opera...

Re: Recurring Recording Schedule
Is rec better than arecord or is it that they both do the same thing? In this instance they do the same thing (except that SoX supports minutes and seconds so you don't need to calculate the number of seconds). arecord is a command-line sound recorder. SoX can be a command-line sound recorder but i...

Re: Best Sampling Rate for Export to Mp3?
In old versions of Lame, the "standard" setting would produce better quality, but would take longer to encode. In modern versions of Lame the sound quality is just as good on the "fast" setting. When "Joint stereo" is selected, audio information that is common to both c...

Re: Recording from USB turntable problem
What I normall did before was cue up the record, press pause and record then let the record start and release the pause button Why not just press the Record button when you're ready to record? Is it because you want to check the recording level first? If so, then just click on the recording meter t...

Re: Startup Options for Audacity
Audacity is an audio recorder and editor so it would defeat the main purpose to cripple Audacity in this way.
However, how about giving the transcribers the audio on a CD, that way it can't be overwritten.

Re: Waveform Interpretation
using the time shift tool to align the waveforms, I notice at near full zoom, moving the tool is jerky and seems to move in graduated steps as opposed to free form moving. Ah, it's just occurred to me what may be happening. Do you mean, when you are zoomed in so close that you can see the individua...

Re: Best Sampling Rate for Export to Mp3?
Could you elaborate? I have been recording as an Audacity project and then exporting to mp3. Where do I find and in what context would I use "Preset > Extreme"? When you get to the Export dialogue (where you select the destination folder and enter the file name), select "MP3" as...
