Re: Editing in Audacity
My version ofAudacity on my laptop is 1.2.6 where as my desktop is 1.3.12-Beta(Unicode). Is this the reason the split function won`t work on my laptop? Yes. In Audacity 1.2.x the "Split" function is the equivalent of "Edit > Clip Boundaries > Split New" in Audacity 1.3.x The oth...

Re: "Normalize" a multi-channel show
My vote is for a master fader. This could work one of two ways. 1) It could work like a traditional mixing desk and scale the mix channel audio -> channel level sliders -> master level slider -> output 2) It could move all channel sliders by the same dB amount. channel audio -> channel level sliders...

Re: Newby needs help recording from keyboard to laptop
MIDI is not audio. Audacity records audio, not MIDI. To record the keyboard you need to connect an audio output from your keyboard to a "line in" socket on your computer. Laptop computers often have only a "Mic" and not a "Line" input, and in these cases it is better t...

Re: No mono record with Sound Blaster 24bit live.
and have gone to Audacity 1.2.14 I presume that you mean 1. 3 .14 Most PCI sound cards work well with Audacity, but if you want specific examples from what others are using it would be worth saying which version of Windows you are using. How well a card works with Audacity is usually more to do wit...

Re: Editing in Audacity
There's three parts to the version number, for example: 1.3.14
The last number (in the example "14") is important.
The version number is shown in "Help menu > About Audacity".

Re: 3d sound, virtual surround, ambisonics, fake bineural so
The beauty of binaural recording is the realism that the technique produces (assuming that the recording equipment is of sufficiently high quality). Position of sounds can be faked using a variety of techniques. Simple panning (http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Mixing#gain ) is an easy way to adjus...

Re: Undesired levelling and clipping on Import
It's not a bug, it's a feature of the MP3 format. MP3 is a "lossy" compressed format. In order to reduce the file size, some audio data is discarded and the MP3 is an approximation of the original audio data. If the audio data is normalized to 0 dB before encoding, then it is very common f...

Re: Gain Slider only on one track
You've probably shrunk the vertical size of the tracks so that there is no longer room for the sliders.
Click on the bottom edge of a track and drag it down to make the track bigger and the sliders should reappear.
