Re: Expression 'stream-> capture.pcm' failed in 'src / hosta
It is normal to get some "errors" appear in the terminal window when launching Audacity as Audacity tries different methods of connecting to the sound system. Audacity does not know until it probes the sound system which methods will work, so it tries different methods to determine what so...

Re: Recording voice through home phone into mp3 or wav
The software is not the problem - Audacity can record any audio that you send to it. The problem is getting sound from the telephone into the computer. The way that this is done professionally is to use very expensive PBX call logging systems (thousands of dollars). Much cheaper options are to use a...

Re: Waveform inversion and the 0 dB ceiling
The "zero dB ceiling" refers to "signal level". "Volume" refers to the " sound pressure level " (SPL) of the sound after it comes out of the speakers/headphones. The "volume" (how "loud") depends as much on the audio amplifier and speakers/...

Re: 1.3.14 hardware requirement
Is W7 RECOMMENTED for the 1.3.x version? Audacity 1.3.14 will run perfectly well on Windows XP. There are fairly compelling security reasons to prefer Windows Vista / 7 to XP. Which is a shame as Vista/7 can be a lot less friendly for people wanting to record - in particular the "Stereo Mix&qu...

Re: My playback sound is distorted?
Oh! so audacity is not able to record properly when another recording program is running? Audacity is unaware of what other programs are running so Audacity does not mind, however, if another audio program takes exclusive control of the sound card then the sound card will be unavailable to Audacity...

Re: no sound when recoding from youtube
"Stereo Mix" is often unavailable or hidden on modern Windows operating systems (Vista/7).
See here for how to make the option visible if it is hidden, or for possible workarounds if it is unavailable on your machine. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... _Issues#cp
