Re: Mono track to Stereo
On the subject of quality. Is there anything in Audacity to try and approximate improvement in quality. E.g. the tracks I have are 128 kbps, which is quite good for voice, but I do have some that are 64 kbps or some are even 32 kbps! I understand that this means that the frequencies have been cut o...

Re: Sound Finder / Silence Finder improvements
I've just been reading this post: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=62896&p=166881#p166881 This issue I am dealing with really is most pronounced in editing audiobooks rather than music. In music, each song has its determined ending point which is the logical placement for a...

Re: Audacity won't start under Ubuntu 11.10
He might not need sudo to remove things from /usr/local Unless they've changed it since Ubuntu 10.x a normal user account does not have write permissions for /usr/local That was my complaint about the plug-ins folder being located there until I found out that a user plug-in folder can be created in...

Re: Tone control plug-in
Would it be better to replace "bass boost" with a built-in effect "tone control" rather than a Nyquist version? I've managed to hack together a "Treble control" (+/- 15 dB high shelf filter) and a "Bass control" (+/- 15 dB low shelf filter) using the existing ...

Re: Audacity won't start under Ubuntu 11.10
It wasn't. When I asked him to run the "dpkg -S" command before it would have returned which package it belonged to. It said no match was found, so it wasn't installed by other package. That's a shame, it would have made the job of removal so much easier. Official packages won't install a...

Re: Need help urgently
Here's a useful glossary: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Glossary Also Wikipedia is a pretty good source for technical terms - in particular look up "square wave" on Wikipedia - there's a section about making square waves using "additive synthesis" (adding together simple wav...

Re: Help needed for using frequency analysis
It's probably that big spike on the left. Change the "Axis" option from "Linear" to "Logarithmic" and you'll be able to see it more clearly. Then position your mouse over the graph and move the mouse pointer so that it is directly under that big spike - at the bottom of...

Re: random static while recording
It's a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 420. It apparently came in with Windows 7 on it, but our IT guys stripped it off and installed Windows XP instead (apparently communicates with our old servers more easily). Check on the Lenovo website that you have up to date drivers for your computer http://support.len...
