Re: The 'Do not recover' option

One question no one seems to be asking is where you have your Audacity "Temp" folder (if it IS NOT on the dead drive there may--no promises, be something there of your project). Once a project has been saved the Audacity "Temp" folder is no longer used. Temporary files are writt...

Re: Pseudo-stereo effect

Thanks for the feedback Frank. Did you try reducing the "Delay Factor" while keeping the "Effect mix" quite high? Depending on the material that can still give a good amount of stereo spread whilst sounding more subtle and less echoey. I agree that the default settings are a bit ...

Re: free plug ins

"Classic Chorus" by kjaerhusaudio works well IF you can find a download for it. The "Classic" series by kjaerhusaudio were all free and all work well with Audacity. Unfortunately the kjaerhusaudio died several years ago, so finding these VST plug-ins can be difficult, but they ar...

Re: The 'Do not recover' option

that is assuming that the hard drive is repairable and everything is still on it, That's the million dollar question. If the hard drive is repairable without data loss then the project should open in the same state as when it was last saved. There will probably be warning messages saying that "...

Re: Sound Finder / Silence Finder improvements

Of course. With that simplistic "track.png" example it might be "common sense" as I suggested to put that case, but that is without considering how an algorithm would handle real world audio. I agree that it is absolutely worthwhile to consider the "common sense" view,...

Re: The 'Do not recover' option

I accidentally knocked my external hard drive over and it hit the ground with a thud before I'd managed to save the changes. The hard drive now makes a clicking sound and doesn't register on my laptop, so I'll have to get it fixed. That could be very bad. It may require replacing the hard drive, wh...

Re: configuring audacity-1.3.6

Audacity 1.3.7 is now obsolete and not recommended. Try using the recommended download: Audacity 1.3.14 release (source tarball) (.tar.bz2 file, 6.3 MB) http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_source#recdown Having multiple versions of WxWidgets installed can be tricky so I'd suggest that you ensure t...

Re: Distorted, silent sound

You should use the "Line In" socket on the computer not the "Mic In". Microphone signals are very much smaller than headphone signals so a mic input will be massively overloaded. Ensure that the Windows "Enhancements" for the line input are disabled (see "Why do my...

Re: Plug-in to speed workflow?

Is there a way to modify the script so that the label is highlighted so that I could just sart typing rather than have to delete the old label? Currently Sound Finder just adds a number to the label text - to delete that number when the cursor is at the end, use the backspace key, then start typing...

Re: Sound Finder / Silence Finder improvements

There would still be a "problem" if someone had content that was typically like track.png but then they also had intermittent crackle as in crackle.png. They would never be able to set allowed silence high enough for what they really want if the crackle was as loud as that. Maybe not our ...
