Re: Audacity not recording when other window is selected.
It's the same situation with Microsoft Word isn't it? If you bring another program in front of a Word document, you can't type into the Word document. Same with Audacity. To operate Audacity you must bring it to the front. Once you set it recording or playing it should continue to do so even when pu...

Re: Moving tracks between projects
You should all use Audacity 1.3.14. The most reliable way to transfer a track is to Export the track as a WAV file (Select the track that you wish to export, then "File menu > Export Selection"). The WAV file can then be transferred to the other machine and imported. If you are sending fil...

Re: Intermittent hum during recording / play back.
Probably best not to use Audacity 1.2.x as it's very old and is known to often have problems on modern computers.
Could you upload a short sample recording to the Internet and post a link so that we can hear the problem.

Re: How to use plug ins
To install new plug-ins, place them in the Plug-Ins folder inside the Audacity installation folder. On Windows computers, this is usually under "Program Files". You may need to be logged in as an administrator. Restart Audacity for the new plug-ins to be detected. Note that for VST effects...

Re: Can't record sound internally
I doubt my monitors will affect it as they are in the playback tab. USB speakers? You've not said what you are trying to record. What are you trying to record? The playback device is important. "Stereo Mix" tells the sound card to use its own output as the recording source. If your comput...

Re: recording a vinyl album at one setting
The solution is to ensure you have at least some absolute silence at the beginning and end of each track. My preference is for a fraction of second of silence before the audio for a track starts and at least a 1-second fade out after the audio for a track ends. I call this "isolating" the...

Re: To select a track .....
The dark shading indicates what is Selected . Effects and processes are applied to "the selection", so for example, when you delete audio, it is the selected audio that is deleted, when you apply the Amplify effect, it is the selected audio that is amplified. There is also an option in Pre...

Re: Audacity puts"trial" in recording
So is there a way I can do it without the VAC? Im trying to record what I hear through my computer speakers. The "traditional" way to do that is to record from "Stereo Mix". Unfortunately in Vista and Win 7 it has become increasing common for that option to be either hidden, or ...

Re: Playing a track with the arrow keys
Exactly which version of Audacity on which operating system?carlosmartinez wrote:The feature we are describing is not during playback.
I use the arrow keys to move the play position and I can hear the audio at the same time.
Let me know if it is confusing.
