Re: expand on Norm's new track name in display
I applied only the patch in your last post. I'm not seeing the colour in Preferences (though setting the colour manually in audacity.cfg produces the expected colour in the audio track text. [Update] I've just realised, the colour IS shown in Preferences, but in the wrong place. It's too high and to...

Re: Converter for Sony microphone (ECM-MS957)
Thanks for the M/S recording snippets sciurius. I've added 4 new presets to the Channel Mixer plug-in: M/S Decode Wide M/S Decode Normal M/S Decode Narrow M/S Encode The first three will decode M/S stereo recordings, assuming that the Mid channel is the upper (left) channel of the stereo pair. The f...

Re: Cue Sheets
The simple solution for that would be to label the first track. Yes, but if that is the case, should something be done about "include audio before first label" in the export multiple files, I don't see why that is a problem. "include audio before first label" is off by default, ...

Re: no input displayed
I cannot find any 'audio in-out tab' in 'preferences'. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place. The "Audio I/O" tab is only in Audacity 1.2.x and not in Audacity 1.3.x As you are using Audacity 1.3.13 you must be looking in the wrong manual (which would explain why it is so confusing for ...
Re: g verb
I'd probably reduce the Reverb time to perhaps around 2 seconds. I prefer to use the " Duplicate and mix together " method as that allows you to listen to the track while adjusting the Wet/Dry mix. If using this method, try these settings: Roomsize: 40 m² Reverb time: 2 s Damping: 0.9 Inpu...

Re: 24 bits truncated to 16 bits...
So ... in this situation, would it be truer to the source to take the 16-bit samples or the dithered 24-bit samples? If you are not applying any processing at all then it will be "truer" to the source to turn of dither whether you export as 16, 24 or 32 bit uncompressed audio. "Proce...

Re: Gain slider versus amplify effect
The Amplify effect changes all of the selected audio by the same degree. The Selection may be a full track, part of a track, or even multiple tracks.PGA wrote:Does Amplify do the same or does it alter some parts of the sound differently to other parts?

Re: How to punch-in
Doh. Let's see if I can get it right this time.
I don't normally bother creating the label at all when I do this, but I included that step as it makes it a bit clearer what is happening (when the instructions are actually correct).

Re: Record sound equally
Audacity does not do "real time" processing, so cannot adjust the record level on the fly. What you need to do is to set the record level sufficiently low that your loudest yell is recorded below 0 dB so that it does not distort. After recording, you can then even out the volume level eith...

Re: Gain slider versus amplify effect
They are slightly different. When you apply the "Amplify" (or "Normalize") effect, the audio data is changed there and then. When using the Gain slider, there is no change to the actual audio data at that time. Audacity is just instructed to scale (amplify) the data during playba...
