Re: Can I set up two different Preferences sets?
I hope I have linked to correctly here Yes that link works fine :) There is no easy way to have more than one set of Preferences. The idea is that Preferences stores settings the way that you "prefer" them :? (which becomes a bit of a contradiction when you prefer things one way some of t...

Re: Upgrade 1.3.14 Causes Audacity to Crash
I will dl 1.3.14 again today and put that version in the "portable settings" folder, Not quite. Download the ZIP version, and unzip the contents into a convenient folder where you have read and write permissions. When you look at the files that you have extracted (unzipped) you will see t...

Re: Volume too low when recording
You may find that the only way is to get some speakers that have a volume control on the actual speakers. When recording "Stereo Mix" you are recording the sound that is playing through the sound card, so, not surprisingly, the recording level is dependent on the level that the sound card ...

Re: Question on High Pass Filter
Either JPG or PNG are fine. For line drawings and diagrams, .GIF may produce better quality and smaller files, but the file size gets very big if there are a lot of colours and the quality is rubbish for photos. BMP files are not good because they tend to be huge files that take ages to load. TIFF a...

Re: MONO-stereo
Does your recording look something like this (flat line in the lower channel) firsttrack000.png If it does, then what you need to do is to set Audacity to record 1 channel (mono). The quickest way to do that is in the Device Toolbar To fix a track like the one shown above, click on the name of the t...

Re: menus greying out
Audacity 1.2.x is really old and has not been supported by the developers for years. I'd highly recommend upgrading to Audacity 1.3.14 http://audacityteam.org/download/ To use an effect you must have some audio selected and playback must be stopped (not paused). The original format of the audio is i...

Re: Please Help: Error Opening Project
all I did was to delete anything between and including the <tags> and </tags>. I saved the new file and was then able to open it in Audacity. Yes, that'll do it. Well done. :) you will suddenly hear a part of a completely different song that was originally mixed in someplace else in the file on eit...
