Re: we need help
Koz, Forgive the intrusion of an unknowledgeable idiot - but is this circuit called a microphone pre-amp? If so, I know the name of the chap in the UK who builds them and can supply contact details - but not in open forum. He prides himself on their being totally noise-free. Not quite. The circuit ...

Re: Vocal effects
Audacity 1.3.14 is shipped with a good selection of effects. I suggest that you experiment with these first. There are also additional effects that can be loaded as "plug-ins" (see here: http://audacityteam.org/download/plugins ) but I would suggest not installing too many plug-ins at once...

Re: What's the easiest way to split a file into two or more

Re: Question on High Pass Filter
For soundtrack involving birdsong alone, this suggestion produces something which is too "artifically clean", if you know what I mean? The Equalizer can be useful in such situations (or a "shelf" filter). A simple shelf filter has a response like this: mid-shelf.jpg You probably...

Re: Question on High Pass Filter
Am I correct then in thinking that attenuation goes on above the cut off (above the "corner frequency")? Yes that's correct. The "corner" is like one of those child-safe rounded affairs, or in technical jargon there is a "transition band". An illustration from Wikipedi...

Re: Recs on how to compress
Clipping is notoriously difficult to repair effectively. Essentially the problem is that you are trying to put back something that has been permanently deleted, which is the top and bottoms of the waveform. Do you still have a recorded version from before the sound got clipped? If not, you could try...

Re: Fine editing of clip boundaries
Forgot to mention I was using Audacity 1.3.13-beta. I'll try that "Preview Cut" keyboard shortcut to see if it works the way I want. And I'll probably upgrade to Audacity 1.3.14 anyway. You posted in the Audacity 1.2.x part of the forum. Topic moved to the Audacity 1.3.x board. Upgrading ...
