Re: build a context menu
Hi Quentin, You may be interested in the proposals for menu reorganisation that are discussed here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Proposal_Menu_Reorganisation as these proposals may impact on the new features that you are proposing. Also, if you are considering a "right click" context ...

Re: M-audio Fast Track to Audacity problem
If you are recording using both of the inputs on the Fast Track you will need to set the "Input Channels" to "2 (stereo)" in the Device Toolbar.
Re: Bad Noise
I downloaded 1.3.1.4 When I open it, I get a lot of white noise from the program (even if the usb is not connected). What do you mean? Opening Audacity should present you with a new Audacity Project window with no tracks in it, and that's all. Do you mean that you are getting noise out from your sp...

Re: automatically save and name file?
Is there a way that Audacity can, when the "stop" button is clicked, automatically save the file, and automatically name it using the date and time as the name? No, Audacity can't do that. Some of our non-technical volunteers find it too confusing to name and save the file at the end of t...

Re: reproducible crash exporting large mp3s
Have a look in "Edit menu > Preferences > Directories" and ensure that "Play and/or record using RAM (useful for slow drives)" is not selected. If you select half of the track and use "Export Selection", then select the other half and export that in the same way, does i...

Re: Carbonite Back up problem
It's not unusual for "size on disk" to be different to "file size".
Could you upload one of the problem files to the Internet somewhere (such as one the free file sharing sites like sendspace.com or similar) and post the download link so that we can have a look.

Re: Audacity, decibel, linear scale and amplitude
What do you mean "linear amplitude of sound". I mean the "sounds" as they are represented inside the computer. In fact sound is energy travels through the air. When energy travels, air preassure oscilates, air molecules also oscilate. Is this "linear amplitude" the amp...

Re: Question on High Pass Filter
Strictly speaking, the cutoff frequency defines a corner frequency at a lower amplitude than the unmodified audio, so there is also a decreasing amount of attenuation at frequencies just above the cutoff. This makes a smoother transition at the cutoff frequency. I think that tends to imply that the...

Re: Volume too low when recording
On a system that is fully operational, there is a pull down menu near the mic symbol at the top of the screen. If it looks similar to this: http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/images/a/aa/DeviceToolbarWin7Basic.png that is the "Device Toolbar". It has 5 entries, one of which in "Line In...
