Re: Recording with JACK and a USB recording device in Audaci

In QJackCtl, click on the "Setup" button. In the setup screen, look on the right hand side where it says "Input device:" and "Output Device:" Ignore the drop down menus, look just to the right of those and you should see a [>] after each of those drop down menus. Click ...

Yes and yes.

Are you exporting as a 6-channel AC3?

Re: Is Audacity supposed to open .aif files?

Could you upload one of the files for us to have a look at - you could use a free file sharing site such as sendspace.com and post the download link.

Isn't that always the case - the one time that you really need a backup.... :(

Re: Restoring cache files with a recovery program

Audacity does not store recordings on disk as a single file, it writes to disk as small "blocks" of data. A single recording can have thousands of blocks, all with unique, but essentially random numbered file names. As Koz suggested, the chances of recovering the data blocks after this tim...

Re: transferring multiple tracks fro real Player

You can use what you have now and the Time Shift Tool (sideways black arrows) to push track two to the right so it starts after track one. Then push track three to the right until it starts after one and two. etc. They'll merge when you Export. For clarification, Koz is referring to the Audacity Pr...

Re: How to Specify an Input Channel for Recording?

I would think that I should be able to select the input channel for a track. There is a feature request on the wiki for this: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Feature_Requests#Multi-channel.2Fmulti-device_issues Allow nonconsecutive set of input channels to be selected e.g. to deal with devices th...

Re: How to Specify an Input Channel for Recording?

Audacity is not yet able to "map" input channels.
If you want to record just one channel you must use "Channel 1" of the device.
If you set Audacity to record 2 channels, then it will record channels 1 and 2 (and so on).

Re: Is Audacity supposed to open .aif files?

Interesting, though I'm not sure I follow you. The properties for the files in question says that they indeed are AIF files. Unfortunately, the information in "properties" only tells you what the file extension is. It does not tell you what the actual file format is. You can rename a Word...
