Re: Cannot record

I am reluctant to use a "beta" version. (Doesn't that mean it's still being developed, and therefore not stable? Hi Ray, In most cases that would be quite correct, but Audacity is an exception to the rule. The 1.2.x series is very old and has not been updated or maintained in years. If yo...

Re: Recording with JACK and a USB recording device in Audaci

Let's see what happens in PulseAudio when you're running Audacity with Jack. Start Jack, Open Audacity and set the host to "Jack Audio System", recording input as "system" and playback output as "system". Start Audacity recording (you can pause the recording if you wish...

Re: how do I play miked drum along with music file

Does Audacity have a Monitor function when recording? It seems that this would be essential to laying down vocal tracks. You'd have to hear both yourself and the instrument tracks via headphones like in a recording studio, in order to match the vocal dynamics to the instruments. Yes. "Transpor...

Re: Unable to Export into wav file

If Audacity sees a dot in the name that you enter, it assumes that you want the letters after the dot to be the file extension . If this occurs, Audacity gives you the opportunity to change your mind by popping up a warning message. If you override the warning message (as you did) then Audacity will...

Re: 78rpm EQ Curve Generator

I don't think that it is a big problem as the effect of this part of the filter does tend to have a "shelf-like" response. I think that the term "low cut" would be technically more accurate, but somewhat misleading for most users because although it is reducing the gain of low fr...

Re: Recording with JACK and a USB recording device in Audaci

I thought that might be the case. This sort of explains what is happening, but I've no idea how Ubuntu have managed to do it. I'm not sure if they have crippled Jack, or made it a lot better, but what is shown there should not be possible :? When Jack is running, it should have direct and exclusive ...

Re: Is there an Android mobile app in the works?

Audacity has been developed using the wxWidgets toolkit library. wxWidgets provides the graphical interface for the (mostly) C+ code. Android does not support wxWidgets so there is no possibility of Audacity being ported to Android in the foreseeable future.

Re: general question about editing AC3

Is there a better way to edit so as to preserve as much quality as possible? Like say, if I convert the AC3 to something like an AIFF, make the edits, then export that as an AC3? I assume that there is no way to make simple cuts without recompressing, but is there one way that's better than the oth...
