Re: Problem recording mic audio
OS: version 10.04 Ubuntu? This is the Audacity 1.2.x part of the forum, which I doubt is the version that you are using. Could you check in "Help > About Audacity" and say which version you have. If you have a standard installation of Ubuntu, you will be using PulseAudio as the default so...

Re: garbled, barely audible sound from speakers
Glad you've got it working.
The problem would be not due to your speakers, but simply that the output from the cassette player has a much more powerful signal than the microphone input is designed to use.
I deleted your previous post as it's now not relevant.

Re: No edit tools!
No need to apologise, glad you're up and running again. I should have said "Edit tools are only available when Stopped", but it's the same for Effects as well

Re: How to join recordings?
Where are the "recordings" that you want to join?
What form are these "recordings" in?
It will eventually become important that you also say which version of Audacity you are using and what operating system you are using.

Re: Audacity Passes a Huge File Test
The bit rates are just 24 kbps, Which will have a fairly low sample rate, and thus explains how you are able to successfully handle over 12 hours. What I would probably do with such monstrous MP3s is to use "MP3directCut" or "MP3split" to split the MP3 into more manageable size ...

Try unplugging the power supply from the laptop and running on batteries.

Re: audacity 1.2
This is a typical problem of using the (very old) 1.2.x version of Audacity on a modern computer.
Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3.14 (you can get it here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ )

Re: Waveform Development
Is this possible? Yes it is, though as PGA wrote, this is not "normal", so the method is a bit geeky :ugeek: Let's say that the chirp was generated with amplitudes: Start: 0.1 End: 1.0 To shift the red line up to the yellow line, you will need to shift the left end up by 0.1 and the right...

Re: Audacity Passes a Huge File Test
I think that you're very close to the limit of what Audacity Projects can currently handle. The quoted limit is 2,147,483,648 samples (about 12 hours of CD quality audio). If an Audacity Project has more samples than that, Audacity can "loose count" of the samples and then cannot open the ...
