Edit menu > Preferences > Directories.
Ensure that "Play and/or record using RAM (useful for slow drives)" is switched off (not selected).

By default Audacity uses libresample rather than libsamplerate for sample rate conversion.
I'll try building with libsamplerate and check if it works here.

NutmegCT, I presume that you're using the 32 bit version of Fedora 16?
