Ensure that Skype is not running in the background.
Which version of Windows are you using?
Check that the microphone is enabled and turned up in the Windows recording settings.
(note that Skype will change your computer sound settings to suit itself, even if you don't)

Check the equipment thoroughly - in some cases there is a volume control hidden underneath the unit.

Is this the only turntable that you own?
Does the turntable have analogue outputs (for connecting to an amplifier)?

can I import this 24-bit 44100 Hz wave file, do some simple editing and then export it back to a 24-bit wave file without any conversions?
