Re: Convert wav 20kbps to 176kbps

What format is the file?
MP3, ADPCM, WMA, AC3, OGG, SPEEX,....?
Can Audacity successfully import the file?

Re: Remove Vocals From Song

If it is essential that the final product is in MP3 format, then the best that you can do is to use a fairly high bit rate for the MP3 so as to minimise the additional losses. If you keep a back-up copy in WAV or Flac format then if you need to edit it again in the future, or re-compress to a smalle...

Re: M-Audio Fast Track C600

you have to buy Pro Tools MP or higher to work with all channels at time. I think you've answered your own question. Why provide support for all channels with WDM if they can take another $100 from you. I understand Audacity use MME, It should work properly then? Yes Audacity can use MME, but the M...

Re: Remove Vocals From Song

Audacity always decodes (un-compresses) MP3s and other compressed file types. All the fancy stuff that Audacity can do can only be done with uncompressed audio.
To avoid further sound quality from re-encoding, export in a lossless format such as WAV.

What equipment (hardware) are you using?
Have you changed any of the default settings in Audacity?

Re: Remove Vocals From Song

The vocals either remain or the music changes horribly. Yes that's quite common. With exactly the right sort of track (good quality stereo recording with the vocal and only the vocal panned dead centre) the Vocal Removal effect works well - in all other cases the results are disappointing. Taking y...

Re: No sound from USB microphone

I've split your post to a new topic. I think that your spell checker may be playing tricks on you - the name of this program is "Audacity" not "audio city" ;) To use a USB microphone, ensure that it is plugged in and recognised by the computer before you launch Audacity. When you...

Re: Traktor 2.1 Recording to Audacity for Track Segments

Make note that each track overlaps and is purposely a continuous 1hr 3min recording. My intention is for the user to be able to skip to favorite tracks while listening on a CD. By default audio CDs have a 2 second gap between tracks. To create CD tracks without gaps between it is necessary to set t...

Re: Changing Normalizing

The purpose of the Audacity Normalize effect is to amplify the audio to a specified peak level. Most audio file formats have an absolute maximum signal level of 0 dB and sound cards have an absolute maximum signal level of 0 dB. Attempting to create a 16 or 24 bit file with a signal level above 0 dB...

Re: Can't record at 48000 Hz with SB Live! on XP

Thanks for the feedback. Looking at the Audio Device Info your sound card should have worked at 48 kHz so about the only thing left is that it was a driver problem, which you have now resolved using the kX drivers. In the past I've used the kX drivers on Windows XP, and while they are somewhat more ...
