Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened
Something you could try as an alternative workaround (no guarantee that it will work, but worth trying). Before launching Audacity, run the command: killall pulseaudio That will kill (exit) the PulseAudio process, but because PulseAudio respawns on demand, it should automatically restart when Audaci...

Re: Removing crackles in recordings
Can someone help me understand why I was having these issues, and why this settings change made all the difference? A brief and somewhat simplified explanation: Computers are constantly switching between different tasks - reading from disk, writing to disk, check the modem, write to RAM, read from ...

Re: Understanding Audio and Amplitude Levels
Where can I learn more about "loudness theory"? This is a good place to start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness The ReplayGain specification provides an interesting perspective of how "loudness" relates to digital signals: https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Replay...

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened
So this is bizarre but I just discovered that if Audacity is not recording properly, running fuser -v /dev/snd/* in a terminal (with Audacity running) will immediately make it start recording normally with no app restart of any kind - it just starts working. Yes that's weird  Is that when ...

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened
That will not affect PulseAudio being the default sound system, but it will have changed which audio device PulseAudio uses as the default recording device.soulstenance wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 2:49 pmI don't know, but could it be related to the command I ran to "fix" the mic?
What was the problem that you were fixing?

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened
Not sure what you mean by executing groups but I'm not a member of group audio. I don't thing I ever was (I never changed anything in there). Is that an issue? I'm not sure if it necessary (unless using Jack Audio System), but it won't do any harm to add your user name to the audio group: sudo user...

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened
It seems that Audacity just wants to take over and kick out Pulseaudio Audacity tries to use PulseAudio by default. You will see in the Device Toolbar that there are options for "default" and "pulse". The default sound device for Ubuntu / Debian / Mint is PulseAudio, so "de...

Re: Audacity crashes pulseaudio recording when opened
If I'm playing any kind of sound, like a Youtube video When you play YouTube, your web browser will use PulseAudio, causing PulseAudio to grab exclusive access to the sound card. Going back to the beginning, are you wanting to record from a microphone, or record sounds that are playing on the compu...

Re: MP3 Decoding failed: Lost sychronization
Well, I loaded the mp3 file in 2.3.2 a half hour ago but in 2.4.2 now I get the error message. I know it's a valid mp3, too. This is crazy. Try this: If you don't already have "FFmpeg for Audacity" installed, follow the instructions here to install it: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/...
