Re: What are the settings to simply record the PC's sound?
Quite a lot of Vista and Win 7 computers do not have the option to record sounds that are playing on the computer. There's an article that explains how to enable it if it is available, and some suggestions of alternative methods if the system does not directly support it: http://wiki.audacityteam.or...

Re: What is Windows MME vs. Windows Direct Sound?
Normally you would go with whatever your computer selects as the default. The manual recommends: " On Windows XP or earlier and given a recent computer, DirectSound should produce lower latency ." There's not usually much (if any) noticeable difference, but there are differences and they a...

Re: Default Program File Association Problem
Don't despair, we can fix this
Do you still have Audacity 1.3 beta installed?
Don't go mad trying to fix it, the solution will be quite straightforward.
Just to help me explain what you need to do, how would you describe your level of computer expertise?

Re: Gverb suggestion
to do the effect as you mentioned in the preview seems like a good trade off to get the job done without compromising the integrity of Audacity. I think that's an excellent way of describing it :P As it is now there are parameters that effect the Gverb that are a guess at best and at times very try...

Re: No sound on external speaker
Pulling it in and out, I found I could get sound from the external speaker when the plug was partly withdrawn, but all went silent when fully inserted. The other end of the cable carries an identical (or so it appears) jack plug, which plugs into the speaker. so as an experiment I swapped the two e...

Re: Gverb suggestion
Personally I see it as more than a compromise Roger. There are lots of real-time DAW programs available (Logic, ProTools, Cubase, Sonar, Reaper, Ardour, ....) but Audacity is virtually unique as a cross-platform multi-track audio editor. Real-time DAW programs need to apply all of the processing dur...

Re: Gverb suggestion
This is currently being discussed by some of the developers. Introducing any type of "real-time" effects would be a very big job, but one approach that is being considered is to introduce "real time preview". That would mean that you could twiddle the controls while previewing th...

Re: Sliding Time/Scale Pitch result sounds strange
2.0.0+svn20120326+r7105-0~r11~oneiric1 just rolled in from the daily builds repo and the issue still isn't fixed. Is this correct? Correct, but a patch was released last night. I'll post the patch here later today but I'm just on my way out. The patch is here: http://bugzilla.audacityteam.org/attac...
