Re: Test if .wav file was ever an mp3

What is the purpose of finding this out? I too was wondering that. the methods can tell whether the a file labelled as .mp3 contains a lossy-compressed audio, they do not tell whether the .mp3 was compressed from a .wav source Yes. As I wrote in my reply "If there are frequencies above 20kHz p...

Re: Threshold parameter in Transient Mangler

Found it. It's not from Audacity 1.2.x, it's from the Steve Harris LADSPA plug-in collection: http://plugin.org.uk/ladspa-swh/docs/la ... h_sEc2.105
It's listed on the Audacity Plug-ins and Libraries download page as "an additional set of over 90 LADSPA plug-ins.".

Re: Default Program File Association Problem

Out of curiosity, what's the technical reason for why this works? Basically what PGA wrote. The problem is really a Windows bug rather than anything to do with Audacity. We are currently testing an easy method for users to fix the problem if it occurs, but for now this method using Ccleaner seems t...

@steve, Just to clarify my understanding as an interested observer: do they need to be in the directory under which they were originally written or simply under any directory just so long as they are together? They have to be together in the same directory as each other but it does not need to be w...

Re: Default Program File Association Problem

Uninstall all versions of Audacity using Control Panel > Programs and Features Download and install a (free) copy of Ccleaner Run the registry cleaner that is included in Ccleaner (to be safe, don't miss out the "backup registry" step). Reinstall Audacity 2.0. The problem should now be fix...

I'm not sure where you want to add this. Do you mean in the "Transient Mangler" plug-in? The Transient Mangler is not a standard part of the Audacity distribution. Where did you get that effect from?

Re: Export to WAV creates a clipped noise file

I haven't looked up the wav format spec, to see if that is non-standard. Yes that's non-standard and is a known problem with Sound Forge 6 files. The WAV export library that Audacity uses chokes on that extra metadata. As you've already discovered, the way to work around the issue is to clear the m...

Re: Download 1.3 Beta (Unicode)

Audacity 1.3 beta has been replaced with Audacity 2.0 Projects made with 1.3 beta are compatible with 2.0, in fact if you have been using a recent version of 1.3 beta you will not see much difference with 2.0. The main difference is that 2.0 fixes several bugs that were present in the beta version. ...
