Re: saving project as.... file
I'd like to point out I too am likely getting this error. Here's a picture - Click on "Help > About Audacity". Which version of Audacity do you have? Click on "File > Open Metadata Editor" Click the "Clear" button, then the "OK" button. Now try to Export the ...

Re: How do I play back while recording?
Overdubbing should be enabled (Transport menu).
Software Playthrough should be disabled (Transport menu).
Ensure that Audacity is set to record directly from the line/microphone (whichever you are using) and not from "Stereo Mix".

Re: Clipping/ Distortion
That is definitely clipped, but it is being clipped before it gets to Audacity. (Audacity will clip the data at 0 dB, but this is clipped much lower (at -5.5 dB). Which version of Windows are you using? Modern versions (Vista and Win 7) have multiple places where the recording level is set so it can...

Re: Help getting started with Audacity
I conferred with various people, and they all suggested that MP3 files take up huge amounts of data compared to a WMA file, and I would have taken up even more space by recording lots of songs at a very high Bit Rate WMA is probably better for high compression rates than MP3 - that is, if you compr...

Re: Clipping/ Distortion
Could you post a short sample of your recording - just a couple of seconds in WAV (not MP3) format will do.
Short audio samples can be uploaded using the "Upload attachment" tab below the compose message box.

Re: Feedback for Audacity created song using Codenser U37
The recording level of the vocal is a bit too high, particularly on the first example. When you record the vocal, aim for a maximum peak level of about half the track height. After you have recorded it, use the track gain (volume) sliders on the vocal track and the backing track to get the relative ...

Re: How do I remove background music from a tape recording
Probably not.
If you could post a short sample (just a couple of seconds) in WAV format, we may be able to suggest ways to minimise the background music but it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to remove it completely.
