Re: Recording in true stereo
Where does the "mixer" come into this? Are the mixer and the USB interface one and the same thing?

Re: install audaity problem with xp
Bad mistake by the developers to _NOT_ make it clear that this package is a "prerequisite" for Audacity 2.0 to run. The problem only occurs if the has an obsolete version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. If the system either does not have Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 or has a reasonably up to d...

Re: Audiobook Recording- Punch and Roll with 2.0
Without the punch and roll capacity, it is hard to match or seamlessly edit in the new fixes. With punch and roll (overwriting the previous audio) it's virtually impossible to make a completely seamless edit unless the punch-in/out positions occur at pauses (in which case you don't really need punc...

Re: Files Too Large
In that case there IS and "options" button. Depending on your version of Windows the Export screen may be slightly different but it should look similar to this: http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/images/1/10/ExportDialog.PNG If it doesn't, please post a screenshot of what it does look like.

Re: "What you hear" no longer available in Vista??
The only reason I mention Ubuntu is because I have some familiarity with it from using in my last job. Do you know which version of Ubuntu you used? Ubuntu has gone through some pretty radical changes since version 10.x Is there a preferred (for Audacity use) distro? And is there a suitable dual-bo...

Re: Distortion on recording
I think that the "distortion" that you are hearing is the compressor "pumping" (the gain level going up and down). Recording sounds that have a huge dynamic range will always be a compromise, but you will probably be best to record with the compressor turned off and the recording...

Re: Cannot record streaming on Ubuntu 11.10
There are instructions for Ubuntu 10.x here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Stere ... _Ubuntu_10
I'm not sure if they can be adapted for Ubuntu 11.x as I don't have that version installed.

Re: Cannot record streaming on Ubuntu 11.10
What application are you trying to record from?
Was that application running (playing) when you made those screenshots?
What options do you have in the hardware input tab on sound settings (third image) in the "connector" settings?
