Re: Backing up and Archiving
I basically agree with what you wrote Bill, though with a couple of additional points: As an aside, does anyone know of any program that preserves undo history on quit and re-launch? If not, why are we going on about it? That's a good point, except that Audacity is a "destructive" editor (...

Re: Visual indication when recording is in progress
This does suggest an improvement to Audacity that may be useful: timed recordings - the ability to set a time limit after which audacity stops recording automatically. That is already available, though it does require that you set an end time before you start recording. http://manual.audacityteam.o...

Re: Normalize and DC offset correction
Edgar-rft commented in this thread that he could not think of any cases where normalizing would be required without DC offset correction. (He also said that he would be hesitant to remove it as an option). Thinking about this I can only think of non-audio examples where it might be desirable to norm...

Re: Aucacity won't record from Alesis USB 2
Today I uninstalled Audacity, re-installed 1.3.x from the Ubuntu repositories, What happened with the repository version of Audacity? Did that show the same problem? (If you're unsure, could you try that again). Ensure that "Software Playthrough" is not selected in the Audacity "Tran...

Re: Saving Metadata on Export
Audacity only has partial support for metadata in WAV files (most programs have no support for metadata in WAV files). If some metadata is lost it is most likely to be because Audacity does not support that metadata. Audacity currently supports (only) the following metadata in the Riff Info chunk: A...

Re: Backing up and Archiving
Backing up all original recordings in a lossless (WAV/FLAC) file format is a wise thing to do regardless of the type of project. WAV and FLAC are robust formats and even in the unlikely event of a little data loss there is still a reasonably good chance of recovering most of the data. Audacity Proje...

Re: Sliding Time/Scale Pitch result sounds strange
Thanks for your patience. I've just posted an enquiry to ask if there's any way that we can move the fix through a bit quicker but I expect that it's just a matter of time.

Re: Sliding Time/Scale Pitch result sounds strange
That's the output of the sliding scale/tempo plugin I'm talking about in the topic message. That's just totally unusable noise and garbage. I've just looked back through this thread - you're on a 64 bit machine, yes? The "64-bit bug" is a different issue from the "quality improvement...
