Re: Visual indication when recording is in progress

I apologise if I presume too much, I merely wished to indicate that some people may find a flashing icon to be an annoyance and some people may grow accustomed to them.

Are they flashing continuously for hours?

Re: Smarter Handling of File Names

It's one of the hassles of cross-platform programming if Windows is supported. Windows relies on the file extension to tell it the file type. Other operating systems don't. On other operating systems you can have a file called "Mr.Smith" as a PCM WAV file with no file extension and it will...

Re: Pausing the Export (Save) Function

in what format is the project saved? I record in 32 bit floating point, If the project "Quality" is set to 32-bit float (as it is by default) then the audio data is saved in 32-bit float format. An Audacity Project is not a file - it consists of multiple parts: a "project file" ...

Re: Recovering Saved Drafts

If you saved any drafts (they are not saved automatically, you have to use the "Save draft" feature) then they should be listed in the user control panel.
The first tab in the user control panel is "General" and there should be a sub-section called "Manage drafts".

Re: Visual indication when recording is in progress

You can't have it both ways: That's not what I'm saying :D "I" would find it unnecessary and irritating. "You" could put a post-it note on your monitor, which I would expect to be as effective as a flashing icon, much less work for the Audacity developers (none at all) and no ir...

Re: Pausing the Export (Save) Function

This does not directly answer your enquiry, but it's a tip that you may find useful.
If you use "Save Project As" before you start a recording, then you will find that "Save" after completing the recording is extremely fast.

Re: External Record Start/Stop Control

I raised the question here on the hope that it would be considered as a software enhancement that would be usable by others. A serial port controller is not software. For Audacity to support control via serial port data it would need to know the protocol and encoding used by the "device" ...

How about a wireless keyboard?
steph212 wrote: There are many applications to which Audacity could be put if it could be controlled this way.
Such as? What do you have in mind?

Re: Visual indication when recording is in progress

The latter is a situation where I frequently forget that Audacity is recording until much later due to other tasks that become known in the course of the telephone conversation. I don't really see that a slowly blinking icon is really going to help very much if neither the normal icon in the task b...
