Re: Sound Finder / Silence Finder improvements
Q. What's a good default threshold level? I think that -24 dB is too high. On my test recordings even -26 dB (the default for the current Audacity version) seems rather high. Additional tip for the documentation - when splitting "typical" songs it is unlikely that songs will be less than ...

Re: Sound Finder / Silence Finder improvements
Some "Release Notes" since my last post: RMS Level detection. The RMS window size is 2.5 ms. which allows excellent accuracy but only serves to reject the lightest crackles. For RMS level detection to be a useful option I think that the window size needs to be increased to about 20 ms. Thi...

Re: Help: convert 2 stereo 48KHZ to 1mono 8KHZ
- Import the file into Audacity.
- Tracks menu > Stereo track to mono
- Change the "Project Rate" (bottom left corner of the main Audacity window) to 8000
- File menu > Export and select "WAV (Microsoft) 16 bit PCM" as the file type.

Re: Cassette recordings to CD problem(s)
In the tutorials it says this.......File > Export and choose "WAV, AIFF and other uncompressed types" Unfortunately that is not quite correct for the current version of Audacity. It should have said: " Click File > Export and choose "WAV (Microsoft) signed 16 bit PCM" in th...

Re: record only 5 seconds / graba 5 segundos y se borra
when importing sounds directly, I can not see the sound waves, but diagonal lines erasing the sound. That sounds like the "On-Demand loading" working (correctly): http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/On-Demand_Loading each time I try to record, as the bar moves, each 5 seconds (aprox.) the ...

Re: I am new to the board
was wandering if us NOVICES are allowed to answer questions if we know the answer Sure, that would be a great help. With over 400 records under your belt you must be well past the "complete beginner" stage and trying to help other users is a great way to attain an in depth knowledge of th...

Re: Saving Noise Filter
It is best to make a noise profile from each recording. How well the profile matches the noise that you want to remove is critical to the effectiveness of the Noise Removal effect. However, if you have multiple recordings where the background noise is extremely similar, then you could export a sampl...

Re: Sound Finder / Silence Finder improvements
Here's the plug-in. For now I have called it "Advanced Sound Finder..." so as to distinguish it from the current Audacity Sound Finder tool. It is an Analyze type plug-in. As it is significantly different from the current Audacity version I've written a first draft of a manual page: http:/...
