Re: Sound/Silence Finder enhancements

Regarding peculiar placement of label in trailing silence: Yes, but that label is different as the "Label placement" control does not affect it. this "feature" is not currently documented as far as I can see http://manual.audacityteam.org/manual/help/manual/man/silence_finder_set...

I know that it's not a "solution", I just mentioned it as a possible workaround for certain situations. :)

Try the Alternative zip download for Lame 3.98.2 http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... aclame_zip
and "Alternative zip download for FFmpeg 0.6.2" http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... #macff_zip

Re: Using Audacity as a Db meter

The final step you describe is a conversion to decibels. Does that mean that this whole time, we've been analyzing the loudness of our recordings not just in RMS, but in decibels? Does this mean that we can make comparisons to measurements made by others--that our analysis isn't entirely relative? ...

Re: Background track isolation using multiple sources

You would think you would be able to do this with simple waveform subtraction and management, but that would only work if you had first level studio tapes or recordings. Even with studio masters (mixed) you can't do it. You can subtract the part that is common to each (the background) but you can't...

Re: Can't Recrod After Using Audacty

Try refreshing PulseAudio before you run arecord.
Type this into a command line or terminal:

Code: Select all

killall pulseaudio
This will cause PulseAudio to shut down. It will then restart automatically.
Then try arecord.

Re: Background track isolation using multiple sources

The center pan isolation does work with some stereo sources, it's a fascinating calculation. But for what I'm talking about, the calculation requires 3 or more inputs, so any plugin that takes more than 3 stereo sources (>=6 channels) would be an indication that it would be doing what I need. Maybe...

Re: can't find ffmpeg file

I'm not a Mac user, but according to other posts on the subject the problem could be due to a "permissions" quirk on Macs. If it is then the "Alternative zip download for FFmpeg 0.6.2" should work. Instructions (and a direct link to the zip file) are here: http://manual.audacityt...
