Re: The Basics: Recording bass guitar help

The recording sound quality of an on-board sound card is likely to be bad. You probably need a better sound card. There are several inexpensive models of USB sound card with 1/4" jack inputs available. I wouldn't recommend a "USB guitar lead" because they don't have a headphone socket...

Re: Sub-ing in samples in place of recorded sounds?

If you know the exact tempo and rhythm then you could try this (experimental) plug-in to generate a new kick-drum track using your drum sample. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=65875 If your current drum track is multiple drums mixed down to a single track you could try using t...

Drum machine (sound files)

Here's an experimental drum machine plug-in. It is designed to play single hit drum samples (up to 4 samples) in a user specified rhythm. The sound files must use fully qualified path names, for example on Win XP, something like: C:Documents and Settings<username>Desktopdrum.wav If the file is not f...

Re: low input volume

How are you "transferring" the audio from the DAT to the computer?

If you are using digital transfer then there may well be no level control, but you can apply the Amplify effect (Effect menu) once you have the audio in Audacity.

Which version of Windows?
If Vista or Win 7, check the Windows recording settings are set to 48 kHz (http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... es#vistacp)

Re: Cleaning up Audio Recording

There's not much you can do as the recording is fairly low quality and you can't put back what is missing.
You can make the sound a little less "muddy" with the Equalization effect. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Equalization

Re: Sound Finder / Silence Finder improvements

Thank you very much for the offer Peter. As a general point, beta testers for plug-ins are always extremely welcome. With regard to these particular plug-ins there will be a need for beta testing before release of any new versions but I don't think that we are quite at that stage yet. If you'd like ...

Re: iMovie soundtrack

Echoes and reverberation are almost impossible to remove. You may be able to make some marginal improvement by: Reduce the level of low frequency noise using the Equalization effect http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Equalization Reduce background hiss using the Noise Removal effect. http://manual.a...

Re: voip calls

Google for "voip iphone app".
It is possible if your mobile has an internet connection and if there is a voip app available for your mobile phone.

This has nothing to do with Audacity or recording equipment so I'm locking this topic.
