Try using the Equalization effect http://manual.audacityteam.org/manual/h ... ation.html
Select the "Graphic Eq" view, and pull down the 3.15 kHz slider to the bottom (all other sliders set "flat" at 0 dB).

What are you trying to record with Audacity?

If you are using Jack then audacity should have Jack Audio System set as the host.

Cassette tapes don't have copy protection. The problem is likely to be either a faulty disk, or it has not written correctly. It's quite common that some brands of disk will suit certain CD writers better than others. It's also quite common for CD writers to write more reliably when set to write at ...
