Probably not quite "empty". There was probably a bit of "invisible garbage" in there causing the problem.
Glad it's working now :)

Re: Portions of wave form have flat tops and bottoms

Only after adjusting the volume settings for Master and Line In and setting the Mic to 0 could I get a good wave form with no "overdriving". Has anyone an answer for why this is so? There may be a "boost" control that provides the necessary gain for using a microphone or a line ...

Re: inserting a file in the middle of another file

Import all of the files that you want to use. They will be imported as separate tracks.
Select part of one track and select "Edit > Copy" (Ctrl+C).
Click somewhere in another track the "Edit > Paste" (Ctrl+V)

Re: No input device

Normally one would connect USB devices before launching Audacity.
If you connected the USB device after starting Audacity, click on "Rescan Audio Devices" in the "Transport" menu.

Re: File Amplification

There's several ways to do that. The way that I would recommend is to install and use the Channel Mixer plug-in (available here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyqui ... nnel_Mixer )

See here for how to install plug-ins: http://audacityteam.org/download/plugins

Re: No input device

I am having the same problem. I dont see the audio i/q in the preferences. How do I select the device as USB to connect my mixer. Could someone help I presume that you mean the "Audio Devices I/O"? That has not been in Audacity for years. I think the last version to have that screen was A...

Re: Cannot Edit Preferences Audacity 2.0

WxGTK is the "toolkit" from which the Audacity interface is constructed.
It also means that when Slacko update Audacity the problem should be fixed (if it isn't, complain to the Slacko maintainers).

Re: Acoustically recording electric piano

The audio input of laptop sound cards tend to be low quality - I have an Acer 5735 and the recording quality is really bad, so I use a Behringer UCA 202 USB sound card. How far have you got so far? Have you been able to record anything? See here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/manual/help/manual/man...

Re: Acoustically recording electric piano

The bit that you have missed out is the computer sound card. Do you know what sort of sound card you have? Is it just the built-in sound card of your laptop?
