I think that you may be clicking a little too high.
You need to click and drag on the actual audio track, not on the "Time Line" ruler above the tracks.

I think the consensus is that the solution to your question is about acting skills rather than technical skills.

I don't use Norton, but there should be some way to add "exceptions" to what and when it scans.

To "prove the problem" it may be worth temporarily disconnecting from the Internet and shutting down Norton, then make a test recording.
