Re: Understanding Waveform and Loudness
it just throws me off since my eyes and brain associate certain amplitude blue wave forms with certain levels of loudness and more so certain editing that needs to be applied. Try looking at the pale blue region inside the waveform. That's the "RMS level" and it is a better guide to loudn...

Re: Increasing drag-scroll speed
Another thing you could try: 1. Click on the waveform at the start position. 2. Drag the scrollbar at the bottom of the tracks window so that you can see where you want the end of the selection. 3. "Shift + Click" on the waveform where you want the end of the selection. or the other way ro...

The drawing of the waveform in Audacity is rather complex. You can view the code here: https://github.com/audacity/audacity/bl ... Artist.cpp

Re: audacity show many input devices
It looks to me like Audacity is listing the ALSA devices in your computer.
ALSA is not part of Audacity, it's part of your Linux system. HDMI cards add a lot of complexity to the sound system. I can't do anything about that, it's your hardware and your Linux system.

Re: audacity show many input devices
To see a list of ALSA devices in your computer, run this command:
What is the output?
To see a list of devices seen by Audacity, use "Audio Device Info" (in Audacity 2.4.2 that is in "Help menu > Diagnostics")
What is the output?
Code: Select all
arecord -L; aplay -LTo see a list of devices seen by Audacity, use "Audio Device Info" (in Audacity 2.4.2 that is in "Help menu > Diagnostics")

Re: Audio/waveform seems condensed and clips at -6db when recording in mono but not in stereo.
There's actually a reason for this... Audacity doesn't know if you are using one or two microphones so the signal is cut in half. To be clear, this is actually a driver problem. This problem does not occur with well behaved sound card drivers. It is usually possible to work around the problem throu...

Perhaps you can test your interface and pro mic with Garage Band.billiekonze wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 5:17 pmIt's only when I connect to my interface and pro mic that it just won't record. Thoughts on that?

Re: Do I have a compatability problem
We can only offer limited support for Windows 8.1 (Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 8.1 on January 9, 2018), but the current Audacity 2.4.2 is believed to work on Windows 8.1 provided that Windows 8.1 is fully updated. You can get Audacity 2.4.2 via the Audacity website: https://www.au...
